Though 3D annotation meant to help describe a design has been in the market for a long time but the adoption level for the same is really low. The main reason behind this is that people focused more on the front end which is adding an annotation to define a design. The thought of replacing the 2D drawing with the 3D models using annotation, came to focus and any value proposition was difficult to be seen. There had been various studies around the topic stating that the amount of time saved in shifting from drawing base to model base is almost negligible.
But as the market witnesses the change, people are coming up with queries like, ‘what can be done with such data?’ and this is thus contributing towards the shifting of the emphasis from creating to consuming. Also, it has been predicted that the momentum shall continue as people are now investing in building well-defined digital twins for the products, which is then leading to the next obvious step leveraging the data that lies downstream with the enterprise and also its supply chain. The changes shall be coming from the ability of the system to consume data and just not relying on any manual inputs with numerous disciplines that shall be able to see the information being served to them, exactly in the way it is needed. The move towards the model-based enterprise shall be exciting as it begins delivering ROI which shall be based on digital twins.
